Your resume’ is your one chance to tell a potential employer about your past work experience. It’s used to display your schooling, any extra education, and what you have learned on your journey of employment. However, it shouldn’t read like a requiem for your past.

Certainly highlight the work experience from the past years. However, there comes a certain point where some jobs need to be left out, unless they were highly formative. If you were at a menial job that did nothing but put a paycheck in your hand, leave it out. The only time to leave it in is when it leaves a gap in the timeline. Then make a short notation of the job title and duties. Don’t dwell on it.

If a job goes back to your teenage years, or early college years, and it’s been at least 15 years since the job was performed, consider leaving it off. The potential exists that it will detract from the overall goal of the resume’, which is to highlight experience. An employer is more interested in your recent knowledge, and your college degree helps furnish your education.
